Sennheiser provides Digital 9000 system to Eurovision Song Contest

Launched at IBC 2012 in Amsterdam, Sennheiser’s Digital 9000 wireless system has since become an integral part of the broadcasting, theatre and live audio worlds. The Eurovison Song Contest 2013 was just one of the events where Digital 9000 provided flawless wireless sound for a global live TV broadcast. At ibc 2013, Sennheiser announced an extended monitoring function. The new software enables a sound engineer to monitor the receiving channels of up to four daisy-chained EM 9046 8-channel receivers via just one monitoring output. The new feature makes monitoring faster and more convenient, which is particularly helpful in critical audio applications.”
The Digital 9000 system includes the EM 9046 receiver, SKM 9000 handheld and SK 9000 bodypack transmitters, plus a comprehensive suite of accessories.
Targeting broadcasting professionals, (musical) theatres and high-profile live audio events, Digital 9000 is a digital wireless system that can transmit completely uncompressed audio with high dynamics.
The system is fitted with two transmission modes. The High Definition (HD) mode will transmit entirely uncompressed audio, as if high-quality wired microphones were used. The Long Range (LR) mode has been designed for difficult transmission environments with many sources of interference. It ensures maximum range with a proprietary Sennheiser digital audio codec. “This refined codec ensures an audio quality that is superior to that of an FM system,” explained Kevin Jungk. “These two modes make Digital 9000 the most versatile digital wireless system available, and the best adapted to on-site requirements.”
In addition to IR synchronisation between receivers and transmitters and a convenient antenna loop-through for creating larger receiving systems, Digital 9000 does not generate any intermodulation products. Providing high linearity across the transmission chain from transmitters to antennas and receivers, Digital 9000 does not require any time consuming intermodulation calculation any more. Transmission frequencies can simply be set in an equally spaced grid.
The receiver also automatically measures the RF cable loss between the receiver and the booster and adjusts the gain accordingly. “This makes the RF wireless system easier to operate for users with less RF knowledge,“ said Kevin Jungk.
Sennheiser showcased Digital 9000 at PLASA 2012 in London, and at Winter NAMM 2013 in Anaheim. Digital 9000 was nominated for the prestigious MIPA, Musikmesse International Press Award. Digital 9000 was showcased at Musikmesse /Prolight + Sound 2013 in Frankfurt and highlighted at InfoComm 2013, Orlando.
In 2014, Digital 9000 is nominated for the PIPA, Prolight + Sound 2014 International Press Award.
