The acronym MIDI - Musical Instrument Digital Interface was coined by Dave Smith (legendary creator of the Prophet 5 polyphonic synthesizer), who joined forces with Roland Corporation to establish this standard of communication between electronic musical instruments in the early 1980s. MIDI added a completely new approach to making an recording/producing music.
In 2013, Dave Smith received a Technical Grammy in recognition of his role in the development of MIDI. |
