Klein+Hummel introduces the O 410 midfield monitor loudspeaker

Back in 1967, Klein + Hummel launched the world’s first self-powered studio monitor, the OY. Forty years later, unveiled at IBC 2007 in Amsterdam, the O 410 midfield monitor includes the latest of many technologies pioneered by Klein + Hummel to once more set a new benchmark in audio reproduction quality. The Q 410 will also be on show at winter NAMM 2008, Anaheim, booth 6579. Various input options allow the O 410 to be used with any source equipment. The O 410 comes with an electronically-balanced analog input. Optionally a transformer-balanced input and al 192 kHz, 24-bit digital input are available. The digital input can accept AES3, AES3id, and S/P-DIF signals. XLR and BNC digital inputs, and a BNC digital output give flexible and robust interconnectivity. Extensive protection circuitry ensures long-term product reliability. Flexible acoustical controls adapt the monitor’s response to compensate for the loudspeaker’s environment: bass, low-mid and treble controls for specific and common acoustical issues, and a parametric equalizer for additional low-frequency corrections. The electronics can be remote located when the cabinet is flush mounted, and can be remotely powered on with two modes of operation (0 V and 12 V trigger). The mains voltage is switchable to 100, 120, and 230 V. A dimmable display for protection, signal type, and digital signal status is integrated at the front. The O 410 features magnetically shielded drivers: 10” bass speaker, 3” soft dome midrange, and 1” tweeter. The respective drivers are driven by 340, 160, and 180 Watt hybrid class A-B amplifiers. Class H techniologi reduces power consumption when signal levels are low. The high-capacity vented enclosure cleanly extends the bass response down to 34 Hz, even at high output levels. Structural resonances are avoided in the cabinet by using LRIM (Low Resonance Integral Molding) materials. A waveguide featuring Mathematically Modeled Dispersion (MMD) reduces negative effects associated with the loudspeaker–room interaction. The most important part of the frequency spectrum is reproduced by a separate midrange driver resulting in extremely low harmonic and intermodulation distortion and an accurate audio reproduction. Attention to detail in design results in a very low self-generated noise. Optionally, a grille and an extensive set of accessories allowing for a multitude of installation possibilities. The O 410 has been designed for use as a “midfield” monitor in music, broadcast, and post production studios for tracking, mixing, and mastering. The O 410 can be used free-standing or flush mounted into a wall (electronics can be remote located using an optional kit), and, in multichannel systems, can be mixed freely with other loudspeakers in the Klein + Hummel range.
