Showing at winter NAMM 2003, AKG adds K 171 Studio and K 271 Studio closed-back models to its line of studio headphones. Following up on the success of the K 141 Studio and K 240 Studio, the first headphones with the new XXL speakers and patented Varimotion diaphragms, AKG adds two closed-back headphones to the line: the K 171 Studio and K 271 Studio.
The K 271 Studio is the successor of the popular K 270 closed-back studio headphones whereas the K 171 features a completely new isolating design. The 30-mm (1.2-in.) XXL speaker is tuned using comprehensive computer simulations (finite element simulations) and laser vibrometry. The results are verified by long series of listening tests. The XXL speaker with Varimotion technology provides accurate, highly detailed reproduction and high sensitivity. The result is a wider dynamic range and even better resolution with no distortion even at high listening levels. The acoustic resistors have been tuned in extensive lab tests with maximum precision to minimal tolerances for consistent performance. The new diaphragm foil material eliminates unwanted resonances and further optimizes the mechanical impedance of the diaphragm. Also the magnetic field and diaphragm shape have been computer optimized to provide the best possible response. The "Varimotion Technology" allows diaphragms of varying thickness to be made in a single operation. The diaphragm is thin around its perimeter so it can easily follow low-frequency excitation. The center area of the diaphragm is thicker to prevent breakup and partial oscillations for accurate mid and high-frequency response. |
