Audient introduces Dual Layer technology with ASP2802 at pl+s 2010

Console designer and manufacturer Audient launched ASP2802 at prolight+sound exhibition 2010, Frankfurt, a sleek, eight channel console combining classic analogue features with extensive DAW integration and control. Heralding the arrival of Audient’s Dual Layer Technology, the ASP2802 fully integrates with the computer system, enabling the user to switch between the analogue layer – the traditional mixer path travelling through the console - and the DAW layer within the computer session.
Steve Flower, Product Support and Development at Audient explains the thinking behind the design. "Zen was a milestone in the industry: the first automated analogue console at a price that didn't break the bank. ASP2802 follows in its footsteps, adding much deeper DAW integration further bridging the gap between analogue and digital."
Behaving like no ordinary eight channel desk, the compact design of the ASP2802 also belies a fully functioning master section based on the design of the ASP8024, and shares the same microphone preamp topology and bus compressor design.
With 28 inputs at the mix stage – achieved using the Alternate switch for an extra input per channel, eightsumming inputs and 2 stereo FX returns – the ASP2802 comes in at a very moderate price. “The modern production room now has another very real alternative to the large format console,” says Luke Baldry, Sales & Marketing Director at Audient. “Anyone with budget and/or space constraints will find the ASP2802 fits the bill. It’s perfect for those users who want to combine an analogue console and fully featured controller all in one space, at the centre of their studio,” he adds.
