Together with synthesizer sound pioneer Wolfgang Palm, Steinberg has developed software synthesizer Plex. For example the VST synthesizer allows to combine the sound of a sitar with that of a trombone and then ADSR this with the envelope of a gong sound.
Plex's user interface helps work intuitively. An audio analysis technique separates the sound to four components: the lower and higher spectra, filter characteristics and amplitude envelope. Each part can be replaced by components from other origins. Components are strictly separated without overlapping data - therefore any part can be replaced and still the result sounds 'natural'. The Plex features switching between 33 sound sources in real-time, 97 specially analyzed sound sources including acoustic as well as synthetic origins and filter characteristics with 300 presets, 3 ADSRs, global pitch LFO, and 3 LFOs which can be synchronized. The modulation section offers stereo delay and flanging effects. All parameters are MIDI controllable. |
