Engineer
Walter Samuel has been making good use of TL Audio valve products
during his recent work with Van Morrison at The Wool Hall Studios.
Having re-mastered the artist's entire back catalogue, Samuel then
embarked upon the massive task of re-mixing 30 vintage Morrison tracks
for the double CD entitled 'The Philosophers Stone'. lt was during this
project that Samuel was introduced to TL Audio valve processors.
'I wanted to keep the sound authentic and in keeping with the period
during which the original recordings were made. To achieve this I decided
to use outboard equalisers and compressors that were current at that time,
such as Fairchild and Pultec models. The only 'new' pieces of valve outboard
that I used were from TL Audio's Ivory range: the 5021 compressor and 5013
equaliser. I found that their combination of modern technology and valve
circuitry produced extremely quiet and transparent results, but with a
very pleasing valve warmth. The units performed so well that I now employ
a TL Audio valve voice processor for recording Van's vocal tracks and the
compressor and EQ units for final mixdown.'
