Shure Incorporated announces the completion of its limited recall of E1 universal-fit earphones shipped between the dates of September 22 and October 20, 2000.  The recall succeeded in finding and inspecting a high percentage of the targeted units, only 68 of which were defective.  In related news, Shure announced it has brought manufacturing of the E1 earphone in-house, a move designed to ensure product quality.
"Now that the E1s are being produced directly by Shure, our customers will be receiving thebenefit of our 75 years of production expertise," said Scott Sullivan, Category Director for Personal Monitor Products. "This translates into superior quality control, as each unit will besubject to our renowned, rigorous acoustic and mechanical testing processes, assuring that the high quality performance of the E1 will remain unchanged. "
The E1 earphone is a component of Shure's PSM line of  in-ear  personal monitors.  The defect prompting the recall centered around the improper seating of an acoustical damper found within the E1's sound ports which yielded a potential for poor sound quality and a potential for the damper to fall out of the earphone.  Users who purchased E1 earphones during the recall period should check the Shure Recall Web site at www.shure.com/recall for full details.
