Brian May, celebrated guitarist and charter member of the legendary band Queen, joined forces with Broadway star Kerry Ellis, who has appeared in Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz and the Queen musical We Will Rock You, for a benefit for endangered tigers. The concert took place at a very unusual venue, London’s St. Pancras station, an acoustically challenging 'venue'.
Event and production company Mr H Productions opted for an HK Audio Linear 5 Big Venue Pack. “We have a great deal of experience with HK Audio speakers. We prefer powered cabinets because then we don’t have to worry about transporting amps and processors and can gear up and set up that much faster,” Mr H Productions’ Andy Harvey said.
The Linear 5 Big Venue Pack consists of four 2x12" L SUB 2000 A powered subs, two active L 5115 FA mid/high units and four L 5112 XA multifunctional powered cabinets configured as stage monitors. Packing a mighty 6.8 kW wallop, the FOH system delivered more than enough punch for May and Ellis’ six-song acoustic set.
A large audience of fans and supporters of the Born Free Foundation gathered to enjoy the two artists’ performance. On the set list were classics such as Born Free, Knocking on Heaven's Door and an acoustic version of the Queen tune Crazy Little Thing Called Love. “The concert got a great deal of media coverage, so it was imperative to deliver clear, high definition sound,” says Karl Bates, Audio Sales Manager South with the English HK Audio reseller JHS. “The Linear 5 system had no trouble handling the challenging acoustics of the big international station’s concourse.” |
