All Electro-Voice audio system for Covenant Church, Plymouth

Audio Logic Systems, of Bloomington, Minn., recently completed an outstanding Electro-Voice audio installation in the brand new 650-seat worship facility at Plymouth Covenant Church (Plymouth, Minn.). The all-EV system features Xi series loudspeaker arrays, CPS amplifiers, NetMax processing, and REV wireless microphones
“This is a beautiful new addition to the church,” says Jason Kartak, Installation Manager, Audio Logic Systems. “It’s a wide open room with a balcony, and has a multi-angled ceiling with a peak about 50 feet over the stage. This is a very ‘live,’ acoustically challenging space, and the EASE modeling made it clear that we needed to combine acoustical paneling for absorption with an extremely focused, ultra-linear loudspeaker. The Xi was the ideal choice, as it balances high output, concert-quality performance with precise coverage and EV’s characteristically warm, intelligible vocal sound.”
Two central clusters of two Xi-1153A/64F loudspeakers cover the main seating area; two Xi-1152A/64 boxes serve as delays for the balcony. The entire system is powered by EV CPS 2.11 amplifiers. Also in the rack is a NetMax digital matrix audio system controller, used for DSP and house control in this application, with an IRIS-Net page setup for level boost, EQ adjustment, and more. “The AV team at the church love NetMax,” Kartak adds, “as it allows seamless transitions between the different worship styles, all from a central location, via a single screen.”
In addition, Audio Logic Systems specified EV’s new REV wireless system: “For the main vocal mics, we’re using two channels of REV with RE510 handheld supercardioid condenser mics,” says Kartak. “They sound fantastic, with great noise rejection in this reverberant space. I also like the REV receiver’s straightforward user interface, and that it’s can-bus compatible with the NetMax system. Most importantly, the audio quality is flawless — you can really hear the difference.” Additional EV equipment includes six channels of EV RE-2 wireless and wall-mounted Sx300 loudspeakers in the children’s room. Audio Logic Systems have already spec’d EV for additional construction planned at the church, including a theater and a gymnasium.
