Genelec highlights 4000 Series and 8260A 3-way DSP System

At prolight+sound 2010, Frankfurt, Germany, Genelec showed two loudspeaker solutions, the 8260A 3-way DSP system and the compact and powerful 4000 series. Also on display were the new 9000A stereo volume control interface, which is compatible with all Genelec speakers.
The compact and powerful 4020A and 4030A high performance, two-way active loudspeakers, have been designed for indoor commercial and professional installations and have many new connectivity and installation features that will deliver major benefits to systems integrators. The 4000 Series was launched at Integrated Systems Europe 2010, Amsterdam.
“We’ve looked long and hard at the systems integration market to see where improvements in audio solutions could be made - and with this series of products, we think we’ve really raised the bar in this market. In performance terms alone, our already extremely successful 8000 Series stood apart. But now with the additional installer-friendly features I think we can look forward to a significant increase in demand with the 4000 Series,” comments Genelec's Lars-Olof Janflod.
Both of the models in the new 4000 Series are fitted with ‘Phoenix’ screw terminals in common with many other leading products in the audio visual sector. This new input method ensures an easy, secure connection, which delivers interference-free, professional quality sound. The audio performance and stress-free installation is further enhanced by the 4000 Series’ integrated amplifier. The in-built protection circuitry will also guarantee the reliability of the loudspeaker system in all operating conditions, drivers are electronically protected from signal peaks and misuse of the system.
The precise ‘Room Response’ controls including calibrated bass tilt, treble tilt and bass roll-off, optimise the loudspeaker’s response to different acoustical environments and provide excellent sound whatever the interior design. The integrated support points for Omnimount 20.5 series hardware on the enclosure back panel, and the 3/8” UNC threaded hole at the base of the enclosure and the wide variety of mounting options and accessories available from Genelec, provide versatility and choice to suit all installation scenarios.
Genelec 8260A 3-way DSP SystemIntroduced in autumn 2009, Genelec's 8260A 3-way DSP system was designed to break new ground in electro-acoustic design, as mechanical, acoustical and signal-processing designs are linked closely together. The 8260A features advances in audio driver technology, integrated with a sophisticated enclosure design, and Genelec’s proprietary Minimum Diffraction Coaxial (MDC) Mid/High driver technology was developed to take a big step in perfecting audio quality in professional active studio monitors.
This approach to coaxial driver design provides accurate imaging and improved sound quality, both on the acoustical axis as well as off-axis. The smooth frequency response leads to clarity and definition of the inner details of the music. The 8260A combines a coaxial driver (MDC) with a modern waveguide technology (Genelec’s Directivity Control Waveguide / DCW), ensuring that drivers couple coherently over their full operating bandwidth, as well as creating coincident mid-frequency/high-frequency point source.
As a new member of the acknowledged 8200 Series, the 8260A features Genelec DSP signal processing responsible for all loudspeaker functions, such as the crossover filters, driver equalizers, driver position alignment, room response alignment, calibration and equalization-related filters, as well as distance compensating delays. The Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software controls all these functions, allowing the 8260A to be used together with other 8200 Series DSP monitors and 7200 Series subwoofers in the same setup. Genelec AutoCal fully automated room calibration and sound system alignment method were designed to provide consistent and accurate frequency response for a multichannel audio system in widely varying room environments.
All products were also showcased at later shows, such as 129th AES. In January 2012 Genelec also returned to Winter NAMM, showing the smaller 8000 Series, from 6010 to 8040 size.
