Chandler Limited specializes in remaking vintage studio peripherals using original wiring and parts. The american company is exhibiting at 112th AES, Munich, hall 3 C19.
One of the products showing is the classic limiter/compressor which was featured on custom EMI/Abbey Road recording and mastering consoles. These rare units were used on late Beatle recordings and Pink Floyd albums including Abbey Road and Dark Side of the Moon. Chandler Limited has seen only about ten of these units in existence-two of which were used to recreate the Chandler version.
The limiter/compressor features an all class a discrete circuit with transformer balanced in and out. The sound, often compared to the fairchild 670 set to destruction, is very audible and "squishy" sounding while maintaining its clarity and high frequency response.
Controls include output/gain makeup, hold (not actually a threshold but something similar), recovery-fairchild style where attack and release are both affected and compressor/limiter select link.
