Tannoy takes its Reveal series of monitors to the next level

At prolight+sound show 2005, Frankfurt, Germany, Tannoy launched the next generation of its acknowledged series of Reveal near field studio monitors. Significant advances in digital speaker measuring techniques such as Klippell symmetry and non linear distortion analysis, laser scanning interferometry, acoustic CAD simulation, and precision manufacturing processes have all resulted in a comprehensively improved range of Reveal monitors. Two passive and four active models were unveiled in Frankfurt.
Originally launched in the mid nineties, the Reveal models gained a reputation for their rigid cabinet and substantial baffle. With the new Reveal models, the cabinets have been further braced and refined to provide the most rigid platform possible for the new driver designs. Securely attached to the solid baffle, with no less than 10 hex socket countersunk-head screws, an all-new bass driver performs with significantly reduced distortion. Magnetic circuit flux control rings and extensive Klippel based symmetry analysis has made this performance improvement possible and the new driver provides tight, punchy and controlled bass response with a clean and open mid range for optimized vocal intelligibility.
The Reveal Studio Monitor range comprises of the passive models 6 (50 W RMS/100 W power handling) and 66 (80 W RMS/150 W power handling). The Reveal D Active Monitor range offers the bi-amplified models 6D (75/35 W), 66D (100/50W) and 8D (120/60W). All speakers feature digital (SPDIF) and analogue (XLR/Jack/RCA) inputs and digital and analogue outputs. A set of DIP switches on the rear control panel of the Reveal D monitors allow the selection of an optimum speaker response for real life and often difficult monitoring situations
The Reveal 5A is an active model with analogue input (XLR/Jack) powered by 40/20 W (LF/HF). A new soft dome HF unit with a neodymium magnet extends high frequency to beyond 30kHz ensuring increased tonal accuracy of individual instruments in the reproduction process allowing improved EQ and placement decisions to be made.
