SPL launches Passeq filter unit and volume controllers

Following the introduction at of the full-featured Stereo and Surround Monitoring Controllers MTC 2381 and SMC 2489 at Musikmesse 2005, SPL chose Frankfurt Musikmesse 2006 to unveil two new fully-analogue volume controllers.
The Volume2 model is for stereo applications, while the Volume8 controls up to 8 channels. Both devices are designed with active switching to avoid disadvantages of passive circuitries causing impedance modifications which affect the frequency response. Many D/A converters and sound cards do not provide level controls for monitoring analogue output signals. The result is a reduced audio quality due to a lower bit rate. This problem is solved by Volume2 and Volume8.
Volume2 features high end volume potentiometers from ALPS, balanced Neutrik XLR connectors and illuminated passive ALPS mute switches. Volume8 incorporates custom designed eight-ganged potentiometer providing invariable precision at all gain levels, illuminated passive mute switches from ALPS and relay switching for all channels, and DB-25 connectors to multicore XLR or 1/4-inch TRS.
Both machines feature high-end power supplies with toroidal transformers. Large aluminium knobs ensure exact adjustment. Front and top of the compact housing are made of etched aluminum.
Another new product by SPL will be the Passeq Equalizer offering 72 passive filters (36 boost, 36 cut per channel) outperforming any other product of its kind. Each channel is divided into three cut and three boost bands featuring 12 different switchable frequencies each. Unique to Passeq feature is the individual layout of each inductive filter due to a dedicated coil/condenser/resistor combination with each inductor is individually adapted for its respective frequency. Passeq provides peak filters (Mid boost & cut, HF boost) and also hi cut, low cut, and low boost shelving-filters. The HF band offers variable Q adjustments.
Passeq's output amplifiers are SPL’s Supra which operate on unique 120 Volt rails delivering an extraordinary S/N ratio of 116 dB and +34 dB of headroom.
In- and outputs are balanced by Lundahl transformers. Switches and regulator elements are from Elma and ALPS. The internal fully analog power supply with oversized toroidal transformer offers switchable operation at either 110-120 volts, 60Hz or 220-240 volts, 50Hz.
