The
finals of the 'Roland European Groove Gear Contest' were a highlight of
the Musikmesse Weekend 2000. Twenty young finalists from countries like
Spain, Great Britain, Germany and Belgium competed on stage in the Music
Hall of the Frankfurt Fairground. After the closing of the Fair it was
up to these DJs to get an audience of 3000 to rave, using the latest Roland
gear: the Groovebox MC 307 or MC 505 and win the grand first prize of 10.000
DM (approx. US$ 5,000) and a record contract.
Third place, with 3000 DM (approx. 1500 US$), went to Germany, represented
by Norbert Peraus, second, with 5000 DM (approx. 2500 US$), to Great
Britain with Third Wave, the money and the record deal went to the Spainish
entry with the extraordinary name "Neue Pop".
After the successful contest two house DJs from Japan and other wellknown
DJs like Kai Tracid and DJ Taucher made the already steamy atmosphere come
to a boil with their hot sounds. All the audience wanted was to go on,
but at three o'clock the party ended and the ravers dispersed into the
city of Frankfurt to party till dawn. |
